The Brentwood HS cheerleading team, which has been on the field for almost two decades, will make its first appearance in a high school basketball tournament in 2018, according to the team’s official website.
“Our goal is to get a school to make a trip to the tournament so they can experience a game of basketball, as well as to get an appreciation of the talent of our students,” the website says.
The Brentwood cheerleaders are part of a wave of female cheerleaders taking to the court in the last year.
The high school’s female cheerleading program has made headlines with the graduation of two first-year cheerleaders last fall, and it has also been ranked as one of the best high schools in the country for female cheer and cheerleading.
This year, the Brentwoods team will be competing in the Brentstone High School Regional Invitational Tournament, which will take place Aug. 3-7 in Portland, Ore.
Brentwood High is a predominantly black school located in Portland’s Portland suburb of Timberland.
It was ranked as the eighth-best high school in Oregon in the 2015-16 school year, according the Portland Press Herald.
