Sen. Joe Manchin’s son dies at school, family says

CHAMINADE, Wyo.

— Joe Manchins son died after a school bus flipped off a bridge at Skyline High School on Tuesday, his family said.

The school bus was on the road in the snow when it overturned, the Chaminade Independent School District said in a statement.

A witness told police he saw the bus stop and the driver fall off the bus.

The bus driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver’s identity has not been released.

The driver is the second student in the school year to die on a school bridge this year.

Last summer, a second student died after falling from a bridge on Skyline’s west side.

School district spokesman Kevin Lacey said he couldn’t provide details about the cause of death but said the crash happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The school was closed until after 9 p.m., and a number of safety protocols were put in place.

He said the school is taking a number and will have a formal announcement later today.

The Chaminades, about 30 miles west of Albuquerque, are about 25 miles east of the U.S.-Mexico border.
